"I learned I hated my father. So, sure."
Based on Shawn's conversation with Lassiter when they tried to arrest him the first time. A back to the 90s fic. Bit of pre-season story-telling.

Hahahaha...eh, bad joke. Rated T for the "just in case" clause. Also, the OFC is Shawn's mother. Not his long lost eternal love or something. :)

There is humor in this story because it's my default setting, but not a ton. I discovered, much to my delight, that emotionally traumatizing Shawn is just as much if not more fun than throwing him off a building. It’s based off of one of my favorite scenes from the pilot:
LASSITER: I did. I checked out a whole lot of stuff. Like… (opens folder on table and sits down) Oh! You’re currently unemployed. Never held a job for more than six months. And, you have a criminal record.
SHAWN: I was eighteen.
LASSITER: Eighteen? Oh, well that makes it okay. Let me just scratch this out.
SHAWN: I borrowed a car-
LASSITER: You stole a car.
SHAWN: -to impress a girl.
JR DETECTIVE: Look, forgive us Mr. Spencer if this seems farfetched.
SHAWN: Would it help at all if I told you that she had a bit of a reputation and that I was "O" for… high school? …Okay, fine. There were extenuating circumstances. The arresting officer was my father. He was trying to teach me a lesson.
SR DETECTIVE: Did ya learn it?
SHAWN: I learned I hated my father. So, sure.
As you may have guessed, from the above scene, this is going to be a doozy in the angst/drama department. It will take place mostly in the past, when Shawn is 18 (according to his resume on the USA network, he graduated in 1994, which makes no sense in accordance with his age, but we’re ignoring that and moving on). My utter apologies to people who were looking forward to more Lassie and/or Juliet--they be not here. Also, written in present tense for no better reason than I felt like it.
A couple of credit disclaimers are in order. First, Psych belongs to USA, much to my chagrin. They’re refusing to hand over the rights. Also, Shawn’s mother is in this story and shall hence forth, until USA tells us differently, be known as Claire, at least in my stories. Taken from DisappearingInq’s story "The Invisible" with her permission (go check it out! She’s an awesome author, as most of you probably know already--don’t let her rating warning scare you off). Granted, my version of Claire Spencer is not disturbing and subversively evil (I don’t think, but you never know), but I like the name--it’s sensible, but not too common. I don’t know: it seems to fit. Also, a huge thank you to JessicaRae for uploading the pilot transcript. That’s where I got the above exchange on which this story is based.
Forward, HO!

First note, as pertaining to my general lack of knowledge: I’ve never been arrested. I have no idea how the process of arrest goes down. So, er, in magical fictionland, this is how it works.
Second note of the night! Thanks go to Luna (of the musical variety) for catching my mistakes. Ugh, those would’ve haunted me forever had you not pointed them out. Or until I die, which I’m not planning on doing for awhile, so they would’ve haunted me for a couple of decades at least. I have been saved the aggravation. Also, the chapter title, is entirely her fault. It's incredibly inappropriate. Incredibly. You're one sick chick, you know that, right Luna? Course I'm still laughing...
On a further note--Concerning teen!Shawn:
I get the feeling, from how Shawn talks about high school and high schoolers ("horrible little bastards") that high school for Shawn wasn’t a walk in the park. He was more than likely the class clown, which means that everyone knew who he was, thought he was funny, liked him even, and thought he was something of a dork. I can’t imagine he made the most imposing, or good-looking figure, probably wasn’t much into organized sports. Popular, in a way, but on the lower order of things. He’s very disdainful of high school, and that’s my take on things. Basically, the reasoning for some of Shawn’s behavior, etc.
Also, we all think Shawn is adorable, for good reason, but he doesn’t really seem to think that he’s that cute. He knows girls like him, but he doesn’t have any huge regard for his own looks (he seems to only like his hair). Anyways, I had absolutely no reason to explain what I think of one adorkable Shawn Spencer, but ‘e’s a foine one to talk ‘bout. Er...end comments.
And Lacy isn’t very popular with you lot, is she? ;]

Hoo-Sha! Only a couple of notes for this one (I'll try not to ramble, scouts honor). For the sake of a joke--and keep in mind, it's not even a very funny joke--eminem came out in 1994, not 1995. Because someone in here has knowledge of him, in this magical world I have written, they already know who he is. Also, I'm not exactly certain when texting became something that people did but, again, it's happening in 1994 :). I think textonyms were being used back then, if anyone remembers (5477 for kiss, 63 for me, etc. etc.). Alright, weird, inaccurate history lesson aside, onto the story!

Ergh, I've been typing up this chapter between finals. Because who studies when they can upload fanfiction? I also got my hair cut, which has nothing to do with anything, but it's totally cute and I just thought ya'll should know.
Eh, I'm out.

I’m sorry this is late—I kept pushing back the upload date. I had a heck of a time writing this chapter. It was driving me nuts. Shame on me, for uploading this story without completing it first. I am still officially on vacation, which includes, for me, vacation from the internet. Just for the heck of it. This is the last chapter to this story, and is mushy as all get out.
Oh yeah, completely forgot this note and it's been bugging me all night: This is 11 years hence, but in Psych world, that means "present day" as in 2007. It makes sense only in the fact that, according to Scary Sherry, Bianca's Toast, Shawn was 9 in 1987, and the rest of the show took place 20 years later (give or take ten minutes) which makes him 29. And which also, interestingly enough, means that, according to his graduation date of 1994, that he was 16 when he graduated. Interesting, no? Unless he picks up a birthday between October and May, in which case he was 17 when he graduated and is entirely possible. It also subsequently ruins the timeline on this story, so I'm ignoring it all, after a bit of fun conjecture, and all you have to know is that he is 18 when he graduated in May of 1994, and it is now May of 2007, eleven years later. Don't think about it too hard, it'll give you a headache.
Forward, ho!
