“I’m sorry, I can’t do this anymore.” Juliet had told Tom after two months of dating. What really got her is what he did next: nothing.
Well, except say, “I didn’t think there was much to this relationship anyways.” Translated to, I wasn’t getting any so it was a huge waste of my time.
Frustrated, Juliet stormed out of the restaurant and down the road. It must have slipped her mind that she wasn’t even in Santa Barbra, but off in Napa Valley. It would be kind of a long walk, so she pulled out her cell phone.
Tom was defiantly off the list. No way in hell was she ever planning to call that creep again. Lassiter didn’t answer, and neither did anyone else from the station. The last number that she could call, was the last number she’d ever thought she would call for a situation like this.
“Shawn,” She sighed into the phone as the psychic detective answered on the other end of the line.
“Jules! What’s up? Got any cases that need a little psychic intuition?” the overly cheerful voice asked on the other end.
This was such a mistake.
“No, nothing like that. I was actually wondering if you were busy…”
Juliet could almost see him smiling on the other end. “Jules? Are you finally realizing that you’re madly, hopelessly lost without me? That you need me by your side always and-”
“I need a ride, I just need a ride.” Juliet interrupted him, closing her eyes in resentment. Her voice a little harder then normal. Cold and unfriendly with a tiny bit of desperation in the mix.
Shawn took the hint, his voice suddenly becoming worried and serious to counter, “where are you? I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
And Shawn was. After a while of walking, Juliet was relieved to see Gus’s little blue car pull into view. She was surprised, however, to see that Shawn was the only occupant.
Hesitating, Juliet finally talked herself into opening the passenger door, settling herself inside. “Thanks,” she managed to say, not looking at Shawn just yet.
“No problem,” Shawn nodded, biting back on the million questions sitting at the tip of his tongue. Instead he drove in silence, waiting for Juliet to calm down. It didn’t last more the ten minutes, “I’m sensing you need to talk about something. Vent if you will. You’re orals about to explode…” he told her carefully.
“You think that after two months of dating you would know a guy.” Juliet growled, still not looking at Shawn, but instead talking animatedly with her hands.
“Do you mean Tom?” Shawn asked, trying to hid the jealously in his voice. Ever since they had been dating Shawn had a certain animosity towards the guy. Jules deserved so much better.
“I mean, the guy was a jerk. Why didn’t I realize it?” A sigh, “you know what should have tipped me off? Like the most obvious thing of all?”
Shawn glanced at her, curiously, “what?”
“He never once got me flowers.” She said simply, looking at Shawn for the first time.
“Never?”
“Never.”
“What a jerk.” Shawn muttered. Juliet didn’t deny it.
Juliet continued to vent for a few minutes, than stopped. She was done, spent. Her color returning back to normal from the shade of red it had turned before. She was over it. Over Tom. Content once more. What she couldn’t seem to do was open her mouth to let Shawn know how thankful she was that he let her open up like that.
“Shawn, I…” She started, only to be cut off when the car swerved to the other side of the road. “Shawn? What are you doing?”
“Stay here a second.” Shawn told her, hoping out of the car and walking out towards the woods. Juliet obeyed and sat in the drivers seat. Arms crossed over her chest as she waited patiently.
She had just started to drift asleep when a bouquet was trusted in front of her. All sorts of beautiful wild flowers. All of which she didn’t know the name. “Shawn! Why-”
“Every girl deserves flowers.” Shawn told her with a short nod, than without another word, continued to drive back to Santa Rosa.
