Author's Chapter Notes:

I'm just getting these two men introduced so this will be one of those chapters, as will the next one.  Hope you all enjoy!

Shawn stood up, stretching his legs after sitting on the comfortable couch for the last hour.  He was toasty warm in front of the fire, but Juliet and Gus were anxious to go skiing.  So anxious, in fact, that they’d left about a half hour ago to ski by themselves.

They’d been in Vancouver for the last few days, enjoying a break from the SFPD, and celebrating Shawn’s birthday, which was coming up in the next week.  This trip was a present from Juliet to both Shawn and Gus (she knew she couldn’t just give it to Shawn).

The pseudo-psychic latched his boots and proceeded outside to grab his skis and head to the ski lift.  Just as soon as he hit the door, he was dragged back in by Gus and Juliet.

“Wait, Shawn.  The Vancouver police are outside.  There’s been a kidnapping and they want everyone inside the lodge,” Juliet said seriously.

Shawn rolled his eyes, “The one time I actually want a real break from cases and you two stumble into one?  In Canada, no less?”

“It’s not like we planned this, Shawn!  I wanted to go skiing but the lift is closed.  There was a couple of sweet honeys on that lift, too!” Gus said.

“It took you both a half an hour to get to the lift?” Shawn asked.

“There was a line for the cocoa stand.  Gus insisted that he get one before we went skiing,” Juliet said with a sideways glance to Gus.

“What?  Brother has to be warm and toasty for the ladies.  You know I’m batting zero, Jules,” Gus defended himself.

“Do we get in on the action?” Shawn asked.

“No.  The IIB will be taking care of this,” Juliet answered.

“The what?  IIB?  International Ivy Breath?  Invisible Intel Brides?” Shawn questioned.

“Integrated Investigative Bureau, Shawn,” Gus said, swiping his nose.

“Gus, don’t make stuff up.  What have I told you about that?” Shawn said with a shake of his head.

“Shawn, that is what it means.  It’s a part of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police,” Juliet said.

“Mounted Police?  Um, Jules, don’t you think that’s a little TMI?”

Gus tsked, which Shawn retorted with his own.  It went back and forth for a moment before Juliet stopped them.

“Shawn, I know you better than that.  You are smarter then you let on.  I know, I saw it the other day at home when you solved that Rubik’s Cube in less than ten minutes,” Juliet said, putting her hands on her hips.

Shawn stopped, knowing he was caught.  He sighed and nodded, “Okay, fine.  I’ll stop.  However, are we going to get in on this?  I mean, we have worked with the RCMP before.  I wonder if Macintosh still works there?”

Gus looked up, “What about Pierre?”

Shawn’s eyes lit up, “INTERPOL!  That’s right!”

Juliet looked back and forth between the friends.  Shawn had told her the whole story about Pierre Despereaux, so she knew about the INTERPOL agent side of him.  Or, the maybe INTERPOL agent.  They still weren’t sure.

“Shawn,” Juliet interrupted, “I thought we were going to relax.”

The look on Juliet’s face stopped Shawn and Gus cold.  Her fair features held anger.  Shawn wrapped his arm around her and smiled.

“I’m sorry, Jules.  You know how I am when it comes to cases.  I have to get in on it.”

Juliet sighed, but knew that she would eventually give in.  After all, if they were going to be around the IIB, then Shawn wouldn’t stop going on and on about a case until she did, anyway.

“Fine, but act like a detective, not a psychic detective, okay?” Juliet warned.

Shawn crossed Gus’ heart, then his own, “You have our word, Jules,” he said.  Gus tsked.

“Why’d you cross my heart first?” Gus asked.

Shawn didn’t answer as the three made their way out the door toward the IIB investigators that were taking statements near the ski lift.

Toby Logan stood by while Michelle McClusky interviewed witnesses to the kidnapping.  Toby focused, reading the minds of these people and seeing if they truly knew anything about what had happened to Karen Woode, the daughter of business tycoon Aaron Woode.

“Serves her right, the little tramp,” Toby heard one woman think.

“I wonder if he’s available,” he heard another woman think.  He looked around and spotted a woman about 70 eyeing him like a piece of candy.  Carefully, he slunk back behind Michelle.

“Let’s see, shifty eyes, that man’s got on one ugly ski jacket, the blonde must be the investigator, and the older woman looks like she’s trying to find something.  Nothing good here to use right now except the shifty eyes on that guy behind the investigator,” Toby heard a man’s voice.  By the sound of it, the guy was surveying everyone, including him.

Toby peeked out and spotted a guy about his age with brown hair, hazel eyes and a loud colored ski jacket looking around at the crowd.  Next to him was a black man about the same age, with a black ski jacket with yellow stripes on the sleeves and ski poles in one hand.

He then spotted the woman with them.  She was similar in age to the two men.   She had the brown haired man on her mind, so Toby knew she was dating him.  It was then he picked up a thought that made him wonder.

“I hope Shawn keeps his promise not to use that psychic stuff and just investigate like a real detective,” She thought.

‘Psychic?  That brown haired guy is a psychic?’ Toby thought as he walked toward the trio.  This day just got better.  Another psychic on the case would help immensely.

“Uh, hi.  I’m Toby Logan, special consultant for the IIB,” he said to Shawn.

Shawn looked at him for a moment before extending his hand, “Shawn Spencer, psy…” Shawn stopped when he caught the angry glare from Juliet, “Private Detective and consultant for the SFPD.  This is my partner Lo….”

“Burton Guster, but everyone calls me Gus,” Gus interrupted.

“I’m Detective Juliet O’Hara for the San Francisco Police Department,” she added.

“She and I are engaged,” Shawn supplied.

‘Okay, I was definitely right about the dating,’ Toby thought.
