Author's Chapter Notes:
A sudden event dramatically alters Shawn's day.
Shawn could not even remember what they were bickering about that day. All he knew is that Gus was standing in front him seething about Shawn taking the last piece of apple pie at the diner.

The two best friends were out at lunch, celebrating National Pie Day at the diner that served the best pie in town. Gus made it a point to remind Shawn that he wanted apple pie. But when the waitress said there was only one slice left, Gus begged Shawn to order it for himself. Shawn let him order the pie slice of course, but as Gus turned away, Shawn in his own silly way was salivating that savory sweet dish. He could not resist but to merely have a quick morsel of that delicious apple pie. But his lack of self control got the best of him, and Shawn found himself eating the whole slice of pie.

When Gus realized Shawn had snagged the one and only slice of apple pie, he was enraged. Out of all the times for Shawn to pull a stunt, he had broken the very promise to his own best friend. In that moment, Gus felt betrayed.

Shawn saw the impact of an ill fated choice on Gus. So he apologized profusely at first. But Gus would not hear of it. Shawn promised to buy him a whole apple pie the very next day. But Gus still would not hear of it. Shawn went back on his promise.

"I'm sorry, buddy," Shawn kept saying as they walked out the door. Gus shook his head and told Shawn he would have to find his own ride back home.

So Gus got into his car, and immediately started driving away. Shawn stood in the parking lot in misery since it started to rain. He saw Gus speed off down the street but then heard a loud crash.

Shawn started running towards the noise. All he remembered in those very moments, was standing in the rain and watching a smoldering wreckage.
