Author's Chapter Notes:
Heh heh. And here we go again!
"Tokyo!" Shawn cried, grinning at Lassiter from the other side of the conference room table. "Sweet! When I told you she was going there, I didn't think we'd actually get to go."
"You're only going because I might need backup," Lassiter said, crossing his arms. "And we are not going in any official capacity. The department is not involved in this. We're on our own."
"Don't worry, Lassie," Shawn replied, adopting an air of mock solemnity. "I've got your back." He thudded his fist against his chest to show his solidarity.
Lassiter scowled and walked away before his blood pressure levels rose any higher.
Juliet smiled and shook her head. No matter how much her boyfriend and partner bickered, she knew that deep down inside, Shawn meant what he said. "Here's the plan, guys," she said. "We're all going to fly to Tokyo tomorrow. We want to be there as soon as we can so that we can set a trap, and in case something goes wrong. Lassiter's already gotten us tickets."
"Jules! That's fantastic!" Shawn cried. "We get to sit together for a whole hour!"
"I'm pretty sure that the flight's longer than an hour, Shawn."
"How much longer?"
"Quite a bit longer. A lot longer."
Shawn slumped back in his seat. "This is gonna be harder than I thought."
"I have a question," Gus interrupted. "When do we get paid?"
"Oh, I'm getting to that," Juliet replied. "Anyway, here's the plan: as soon as we land, we'll go straight to the place Aurora talked about and case it. We'll look at all the vulnerabilities and all the options and we'll see if we can find a way to trap her or incapacitate her. We'll have to plan that more thoroughly once we get there and see what we have to work with."
"But do we get paid?" Gus repeated, crossing his arms.
"No. I'm sorry, but like Carlton said, this is all off the record. If there isn't an official assignment, there isn't a paycheck. At least, not until we get back and get everything sorted."
Seeing the forlorn look on his best friend's face, Shawn clapped an arm around Gus' shoulders and said, "Look at it this way, buddy: we might not be getting paid, but we are getting a free ride to Japan!"
"A plane trip to an exotic archipelago isn't going to pay my bills, Shawn!"
"No, but it might give you a chance to hook up with some attractive Japanese women! Because clearly your moves don't work on any Americans."
"My moves work fine," Gus protested before having a sudden thought. "Although it would be nice to meet a woman who shares my intimate knowledge of and respect for the ancient Japanese tea ceremony."
"So this means you're in?" Juliet said.
"Oh, Jules," Shawn replied with a grin. "We are so in, you might never get us out!"
