Author's Chapter Notes:
I used a jump cut in this chapter. ...I'm sorry. :-D

We're now moving ahead with ol' Aurora. Wonder what she's got up her sleeve?
Aurora sat in her rental car in the parking lot of a rest stop just outside town, drumming her fingers on the steering wheel.
"I messed up," she thought. "Big time. But how to fix it?"

She couldn't go back to the crime scene, that was clear. She couldn't drop it off at the police station. She couldn't take another victim, because the thoguht of leaving two notes with one body was simply abhorrent. So what else was she supposed to do? Slip it in the mail?

She scoffed at herself, at her own stupidity. Lassiter had to pay. She had to make him suffer. Make him suffer, make him bleed. But he was just so beautiful, and so strong. Make him suffer, but not too much.

She reached into her lone suitcase and shredded one of her favorite black shirts with the knife she kept in her pocket. She braided the strips and put knots on the ends, tying it up and adding more fabric, laughing to herself as she went. Perhaps the mail was a good idea after all. Perhaps Detective Carlton Lassiter would finally understand exactly who it was he was dealing with.

It was the perfect plan. Ambitious, risky, and completely unlike anything she'd ever done before. She'd broken the pattern, and soon she would break Lassiter's life.

Rebecca Williams sorted through the mail that had been sent to the police station. "What am I going to tell the Chief?" she wondered silently. "I definitely didn't get around to it yesterday. I can't put it off much longer! It's got to be done, and the longer I wait, the worse it'll be."

She sighed and stacked up the envelopes, muttering to herself. "That goes to the Chief. That goes to Officer Allen. That goes to the Chief. This goes to...Lassiter?"
The thick Manila envelope that she had picked up from the bottom of the stack was indeed addressed to Lassiter, in a woman's handwriting in gold ink.

She made a beeline for the Chief's office and knocked on the door.

"Come in," Chief Vick said, sounding just as exhausted as she had the previous day.
Rebecca opened the door and stepped inside the office, holding hey he Manila envelope. "Chief? This was addressed to Detective Lassiter. Take a look."

Chief Vick took the envelope and examined the writing. "Where is Lassiter?"
"I don't know, but I can find out," Rebecca replied.
"Do it." The Chief dropped the envelope on her desk and rubbed her temples. "This is exactly what I needed today. Just another thing that needs my attention."

It was a matter of minutes before Lassiter entered her office, the secretary close at his heels. "They're always so inseparable,"Chief Vick thought. "Just like Spencer and O'Hara. Why do they all think I'm too stupid to see it?"

"You asked to see me, Chief?" Lassiter said, hands clasped behind his back and his voice taking on the rough tone he used when he was trying to convince her that he had everything under control. Without a word, she held up the envelope. Without a word, he opened it.

"What is this?" he muttered as he tugged a black bundle of fabric from the bottom of the envelope. He flipped it over in his hand and frowned. It was a doll, with a large knot for a head and a face drawn in gold paint. The doll was thin and only the size of his hand, but its maker had stabbed its tiny body all over, highlighting the gashes in what Lassiter hoped was dark red nail polish. A capital L had been drawn on its thin little chest. A pink thumbtack had been shoved through its knotted head and a red one was tacked into its heart. He dropped it on the desk with revulsion, as if it'd been a spider ready to bite him. "There's something else in the envelope. A note."
Chapter End Notes:
Side note: It's officially been over a year since I started this darn thing. The longest time it's ever taken me to write a fanfic. ...I will finish this before the end of 2014, I promise!
