Love it! Great tag to the episode, wish it could be included because I'd love to see James and Corbin do this scene.

That was beautiful! I just finished watching Daredevils and found it kind of an odd episode. This really helped put it in perspective, and it ties in nicely with the revelations we got in Ghosts. I think you've fleshed out Shawn and Henry's relationship so nicely here. They definitely had a moment. :)

I just rewatched this episode, and Shawn's emotions in it were wonderful - actually, he had so many "see into the inner psyche" moments in season 3, was just wonderful! Anyway - I love this tag - it's so something that should have happened! When Shawn realized that all this time his Dad has let him believe he was the bad guy... instead of mom - just priceless!
Well Done!

Friggin' GUH.
I don't even know what to say. That was just . . . GUH.
I love it all. From Shawn's neurotic need to clean to Henry's annoyance and then understanding, from the unnoticed coffee spill to the quotes from his conversation with Dutch.
As always, Shawn's sharp eyes and keen mind combine to give him observations and realizations that are spot on and damn if we don't see here that he learned it from Henry.
THIS IS SO FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!!!! GAHHHHHHHHH
I LOVE HOW YOU BOTH VILIFY AND JUSTIFY MADELEINE'S BEHAVIOR AND SHOW HENRY'S SELFOSH SACRIFICE IN IT'S TRUE HEROIC COLORS! GAHHHHHHHHHH-
*esplodes*

I can't believe I missed this before! Stray told me I needed to read this incredible and amazing fic, and I always trust her judgement on such things! This is absolutely beautiful! You have the perfect tone to their voices, and the unsteady connection was so poignantly perfect to their relationship! And yes, I truly see Shawn as the one to make the first seps towards healing- in part because he truly does crave the approval and love of his father. Moreso- he feels at fault for the rift in the first place.
I really love how you started the story off with Shawn doing the dishes! It created an excellent mood, and lent that sort of unsettling note as well. And from there, it flowed wonderfully with the blend of Shawn's words to Dutch, the flashback memories to childhood, and the current conversation.
Awesome story, please write more!

Um... 'scuze me but where are the hugs and weeping?
Author's Response:
Um. Can you seriously see them doing that? Because, really, I just can't. Not yet, anyways.

I could honestly spends hours upon hours writing up a review and trying to tell you just how much I admire and have come to love what you’ve written with this story but even then I could never capture the essence of what you’ve displayed here. Instead I’ll opt for telling you the main things that have struck me.
There were so few words said because they didn’t need to say many, most of everything was told through their stances and actions. Shawn started with trying to repent for hating his father all those years, blaming him for the divorce, so he did the only thing he could to make up for it: clean. This was his action and this is what Henry was left to interpret, remembering times past when Shawn did something similar and he was left to connect the dots to figure out why Shawn’s doing it this time.
For me the thing that sold this story was the fact that you had such little dialogue. Just like in the show they said what needed to be said but no more; what they did say they knew to interpret as something more, as what they really meant to say. They’ve had thirty odd years of practicing getting inside each others head and they could tell what the other meant, even if they craved to hear the spoken words they’ve come to except that unspoken words is the way of their relationship.
For me the fact that you wrote Shawn and Henry’s relationship so beautifully is what has brought me to love this story. It’s like you lived the thirty years with Henry and Shawn and know them better than they know themselves. In other words you wrote the characters knowledgeably and with an ease I can recall very rarely seeing in this fandom before. Bravo!
