"His breathing became heavier as the silence continued, as if he actually longed to hear the young man’s voice again. He must have stayed there for who knows how long, on his knees, not daring to turn on the small vacuum cleaner for fear of drowning out Shawn’s voice if he were to speak again."

I really wanted to leave a longer review but... I just decided to point out a line above. It upset me like whoa and made me (the emotional stone) actually tear up. That whole part really. *shakes fist*

Major kudos yet again. Now I'm gonna return to my hole..

Author's Response: One of the hardest things to do writing for this fandom, I guess, is figuring out how to write emotional Lassie. This is SO hard! But I'm loving the challenge, and I'm so glad it came across so well! Thanks for your awesome review :)

Yes, so hlad Lassie figured it out.

Author's Response: Yep! I had to throw in a bit of a mystery there somewhere for our gruff detective! It was kind of like "their last case together," and Lassie comes to realize that it's over, which is hard for even him to come to terms with. Thanks so much for your review :)

Wow. If even Lassiter is crying, then Gus must be going through hell. Not to mention poor Buzz... Did I mention how evil you are to murder Shawn like that? :D Eagerly awaiting your next update.

Author's Response: Yeah, I'm evil ;) And yes I'm working on some Gus & Buzz stuff right now...pretty intense! You're so awesome for being such a loyal reader & reviewer. Thanks! :)

*sobs uncontrollably* this is so sad!!! Yet it's just, so addicting!!!! Oh why am I called to incredibly sad and angsty fics???!! I felt tears in my eyes when lassiter told Henry. :'( this is without a doubt the best, most tear inducing death fic I have ever read. I love it. Why I love reading sad stories like this, I don't know, but it's amazing. Everyone is so in character!!! (I've read many deathfics that were good, but were nothing like the characters. I'm extremely glad to say, this is AWESOME, AND in character! It's the best of both worlds!) I am officially am obsessed consider me one of fans who spaz out when you update, sooo, OMG UPDATE SOON OR ELSE IM GONNA GO INSANE!!!!!!!!!!! AAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Author's Response: Aww! LOL! I don't mean to be so hurtful...but ya know ;) I'm trying to update as fast as I can, but also trying to make sure I get it right in the process. Balance :) That and one of my beta readers has a nice habit of crumpling to the ground in tears for a couple days before sending me feedback..*ahem*...but I love her and her insight is invaluable, so can't do without that :) Thank you so much for your kind thoughts :)

So, I live on the east coast, where Hurricane Irene just ripped through. Tore down three of the trees in my yard, including one very sentimental tree planted by my Dad's aunt. We're all a bit down about that. So, I come here, in the midst of trying to reconcile losing our trees and the process of rebuilding, hoping for a pick me up. I see your story and immediately run to it because it's awesome. And there you go KILLING ME AGAIN. My Lord, Henry...so true to the character. It was perfection. Everything you said was so right, and even though I don't know the loss of a kid, I'm sympathizing with loss right now. It was so real...so painful...so strangely therapeutic to tear up like that...Thank you, you really are amazing.

PS. The other author I was talking about was CollegeKid06. Read their stuff if you want more GREAT quality sadness. Not that you need it, you're wonderful on your own :)

Author's Response: Wow, I'm so sorry for the tree, and any other damage your home went through! I truly hope you and your loved ones are okay. I don't (THANKFULLY) know what it's like to lose a child, so I'm glad that this came across realistically to the loss and to the character. Thank you so much for your review and kind thoughts.

Finally got internet in my house, so I was able to read this last chapter without much hassle.

I was worried that I was going to be confronted with a stock emotional response when I opened this chapter, which would have been sad considering the potential this piece has. I've read a lot of so-called "tear-jerkers" and "death-fics," and I cannot tell you how many times I've stopped reading because it just didn't ring true to me. The emotions and reactions seemed stilted, and no matter how hard I (and the writer) tried, I just couldn't become emotionally invested. I've encountered this both in original and fan fiction. (Fortunately, most of the stories here "work" for me.)

Okay enough babble....

Frankly, I don't know why I worried. Beautiful language, beautiful emotion, and very plausible reactions. Henry's emotions are so real. I personally don't know how it would truly feel to grasp onto the realization that you've lost your only child, but you've made it incredibly real through your prose. That's awesome, because that's a writer's goal. And since I'm writing this review from a writer's perspective, I give you major props.

On a character level, poor Henry. What does he have now? Shawn was his world. They had come such a long way, and I love how you described that.

Thank you for sharing this!

Author's Response: Man...I was choking up just reading this! And now (unbecoming of a writer, lol) I'm without words to respond. I'm so glad this has come across so well, and I can only hope to keep it up, especially for those who are putting so much thought into what I write. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts!

Saddest. Chapter. EVER! -bawls- Henrrryyyyy! Oh, my heart ached while reading this. And by the way, I read this as a tornado attacked my house. That's dedication. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT SAD CHAPTER!!! I'm gonna go cry my eyes out now.

Author's Response: Yes it IS dedication! And to be honest, if a tornado was hitting my house, fanfic might *not* be high on my list of priorities, so I'm incredibly humbled :) I hope your home and loved ones are all ok. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing :)

I'm a sucker for tragedy and misfortune in fics, so I tend to read a lot of death and whump. Happy, right? Well, this story ties for most PAINFUL fics I've ever read! I don't cry, but you have me near blubbering! Evil!! Update please?

Author's Response: Oh wow, Thank you so much! I know there are some incredibly talented deathfic and angst writers out there, so this is quite the compliment! I'm posting ch 3 very soon! Thanks so much for your kind words :)

Buzz McNab on suicide watch? Great story so far.

Author's Response: Buzz isn't taking things very well, that's for sure! I'm working on an up close look at him soon enough! Thanks so much :)
